I work in one of the oldest buildings on campus, with the first elevators ever installed (back in the 60s) on this campus. Needless to say, they don’t work very well at all. It’s not a full week until they’ve been repaired at least four times.

Of course, they’re broken again. My supervisor let us know this, and I countered with, “No surprise. The last time our elevators worked right, Charles Xavier had hair and Nick Fury had both eyes.”

The sheer amount of laughter made my day.

I was so, so relieved when they weren’t actually related to each other (the English dub had some weird explanation for them being sisters or cousins/related in some way and that’s why they were always together). When they turned out to be just lesbians and in love with each other, it was perf.

Our therapy dog visits started today! Here is a photo of Kennedy the Great Pyrenees pup getting a loving ~~hug~~ head lean from a student. Kennedy and her twin, Duffy, were BIG hits on campus.

P.S. I love my job. My bf laughs that I have somehow managed to unite my two loves- libraries and animals. I say…best work day EVER!

Ohh, the dogs of my dreams! I am so happy for/jealous of you.

These Pyrenees dogs were GORGEOUS (so much so that I felt a little inadequate sitting next them.) They are now on my top 10 list of breeds I would like to own (though, frankly, when I do get a dog, mine is likely to be a mutt from a shelter.)

Purebred dogs in need of rescue are more common than you may know! Big Fluffy Dog Rescue specializes in fluffy dogs like Pyrenees. For future reference ;)

True, and I appreciate you mentioning it. There are a lot of purebreds in shelters across the country.

I just meant it in the “Laura always goes for the (literal) underdog” sense. My adoption M.O. has always been to take in the animal that I think others wouldn’t want.

True Story: As a kitten, I chose my cat Nugget because he wanted nothing to do with anyone and hid under the sofa the whole time. I figured he would be the hardest to home so I took him. (Best decision ever by the way.)

That, and I relate to mutts somehow. I am hardly a purebred myself (as if anyone is, with the exception of royalty.)

! <3 I love therapy animals. I want to give them all of the treats and all of the love. I love seeing them out in public areas you wouldn’t normally think to see them.

Unlike the fictional Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, this hotel is really named the Overlook. The abandoned hotel is located in the small, wine growing town of Bernkastel-Kues in Germany. Aside from the fact that it has been unoccupied for about 13 years, there is no information as to why the hotel was closed. All of the furniture remains and it looks as if everyone there simply left. There are rumors that the hotel is haunted. According to urban explorers who frequent the spooky site, cameras malfunction, sounds can be heard throughout the premises and items seem to move around the hotel by themselves.

…when a high school students emails you about taking college level courses over the summer to broaden their horizons (actual words used! So awesome), but the courses they want are actually Graduate Thesis level courses, and it simply can’t be done.

I recommended the Orlando History Center instead, but still! I kinda wish we had a program in place for such a thing.

Just you know, spending some quality time with my cat :)
